If your garage door goes up but will only come down when you work the wall switch, you probably have misaligned safety sensors. Check to see if the small light is lit up when you use the remote and there’s nothing blocking the door. If there’s no light, you likely need garage opener repair and will need to replace or realign the sensors. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of direct sunlight being exposed to your sensor eyes, which can cause them to misbehave. If sunlight is the problem, give the sensor some shade, perhaps with a piece of cardboard or small piece of wood.
You may also just need to realign the safety sensor. You need to make sure the sensor is in a position that can more easily pick up the signal.
New sensors generally go for about $40. Remember that sensors are brand specific. You need to buy a sensor designed to work with your opener.
